Gangrar police on Wednesday arrested four men in connection with the murder of a 22-year-old youth who was allegedly abducted, held captive, and brutally assaulted over false allegations of battery and tyre theft in Chittorgarh district. Police have also recovered weapons and vehicles believed to have been used in the crime.
The accused have been identified as Kanhaiyalal (30) and Shyamlal (26), both residents of Hamirgarh in Bhilwara district; Satya Narayan (28) from Gangrar in Chittorgarh; and Kanaram (22) from Sindhari in Barmer district.
Chittorgarh Superintendent of Police Manish Tripathi stated that the police control room received information on January 14 about Shankar Singh, son of Bhagwan Singh Rawna Rajput, being unlawfully detained by the operator of Mahadev Hotel and others near a Reliance petrol pump in the Gangrar area.
“The victim was mercilessly assaulted with the intent to kill based on false accusations of battery and tyre theft,” Tripathi said. Shankar Singh was later admitted to Mahatma Gandhi Hospital in Bhilwara, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
Following his death, family members staged a protest outside the hospital mortuary, demanding financial assistance from the state government. After discussions with district officials, a post-mortem examination was conducted.
Based on a formal complaint lodged by the family, Gangrar police registered a murder case and launched an investigation, which led to the arrest of the four accused. Further investigation into the case is ongoing.
