A BJP worker from Lunawada, Mukesh Shrimali, has been arrested for his alleged involvement in the Rs123 crore Nal Se Jal scam in Gujarat’s Mahisagar district. Shrimali, a contractor associated with the scheme, is accused of completing only partial work while claiming full payment.
According to CID (Crime) officials, Shrimali was awarded multiple projects under the government’s Nal Se Jal water supply scheme, collectively worth around Rs3.25 crore and spanning 10 villages. Investigators found that in several locations, only about half of the assigned work was completed.
“Despite incomplete execution of the projects, the accused received full payment. A recovery of Rs1.7 crore was demanded for the unfinished work, but he failed to repay the amount,” a CID official stated.
Shrimali had been questioned several times during the investigation, and authorities had already collected documents linked to his alleged role in the scam. Following further scrutiny, he was formally arrested and sent to judicial custody on Tuesday.
So far, 24 individuals—including contractors and government officials—have been arrested in connection with the large-scale scam. While the irregularities were detected earlier, the official complaint was registered on June 22 last year. Of those arrested,
