28-Year-Old Charged With Murder After Early Morning Incident

by Sophia Bennett

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A 28-year-old woman has been charged with murder after shooting her father in northwest Albuquerque early Tuesday morning.

Authorities said Summer Coughran told police she shot her 65-year-old father, Kirk Coughran, at their home near Paradise Blvd. and Eagle Ranch Road, claiming he had assaulted her and had a history of violence.

However, police said her account did not match the evidence collected at the scene. During the investigation, officers reviewed multiple prior reports involving Summer, including references to mental health concerns.

Coughran was formally charged with murder as the investigation continues.
