STOREY COUNTY, Nev. — Two men were arrested Sunday afternoon on drug and weapons charges following a traffic stop in the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center, according to the Storey County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO).
A deputy conducted the stop around 4 p.m. on Jan. 18, with a K9 unit, Chino, assisting at the scene. The driver, 36-year-old Jesse Perks of Silver Springs, and a passenger, 41-year-old Kristopher Shaffer of Reno, were taken into custody after officers discovered illegal substances and weapons.
Shaffer, who had an active extraditable warrant from Vancouver, Washington, was arrested on the warrant. A search revealed a glass pipe and a white substance, suspected methamphetamine, in Shaffer’s pants. During a vehicle search prompted by K9 Chino, deputies also found alleged ecstasy pills, a rifle, and brass knuckles.
Charges for Shaffer include possession of a Schedule I or II controlled substance under 14 grams, use of drug paraphernalia, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, and the outstanding warrant. Perks faces similar drug charges, possession of a dangerous weapon, and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.
Both men were booked into the Storey County Detention Facility. Shaffer will await extradition to Washington state.
