Kashmir police have arrested three individuals involved in drug trafficking in Awantipora and Baramulla, recovering substantial quantities of heroin-like substances and charas during separate operations.
In Baramulla, a team from Tangmarg Police Station intercepted Mukhtar Ahmad Rather, son of Mohd Ayoub Rather of Nambalnar Babareshi, at Y Point Babareshi crossing. Officers recovered 21 grams of a heroin-like substance along with a digital weighing machine. A case under FIR No. 85/2025 was registered under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act, and Rather was taken into custody.
In Awantipora, a police team led by the SHO of Awantipora Police Station and the in-charge of Police Post Toll Plaza intercepted two suspects at a checkpoint in Kachkoot. The accused, Farooq Ahmad Zaroo, son of Gh. Mohd Zaroo of Sether, and Ifahaz Ul Mushtaq, son of Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat of Pujteng, were found with 5.42 grams of heroin-like substance, 553 grams of charas powder, and 26.43 grams of charas sticks. Both were arrested, and FIR No. 242/2025 was registered at Awantipora Police Station.
Police confirmed that further investigations are ongoing to trace the source of the narcotics and identify other individuals involved in the trafficking network in the Kashmir Valley.
