The Kannur City Cyber Police have arrested a 28-year-old man from Punjab in connection with a “digital arrest” fraud in which fraudsters impersonated Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officers and cheated a woman doctor from Thalassery of Rs10.5 lakh.
The accused has been identified as Jeevan Ram, a native of Ludhiana district in Punjab. Police said he was arrested from a remote village after an intensive five-day operation carried out under difficult terrain and adverse weather conditions.
According to investigators, Jeevan Ram repeatedly changed locations in an attempt to evade arrest, forcing the cyber police team to conduct a high-risk pursuit. The fraud involved posing as CBI officials and intimidating the victim with false legal threats, a method commonly referred to as “digital arrest.”
Police said further investigation is underway to identify other members of the fraud network and trace the flow of the cheated money.
