NORTH VERNON, Indiana — Brittany Allison, a Seymour resident, was arrested Saturday after officers discovered a methamphetamine possession and a complex retail fraud operation during a Walmart investigation.
Police were initially dispatched to the North Vernon Walmart at 2410 N. State Road 3 for a reported trespassing incident. During the investigation, officers developed probable cause and took Allison into custody without incident.
A search of Allison’s vehicle, conducted under warrant, uncovered methamphetamine, a cellular phone, and evidence of a sophisticated theft and fraud scheme. According to police, the operation involved deceptive returns and exchanges of merchandise, which were used to facilitate further theft or resale.
Allison was booked into the Jennings County Jail on preliminary charges of:
Possession of methamphetamine
Criminal trespass
Theft
Fraud
The case will be formally reviewed by the Jennings County Prosecutor’s Office.
“The officers involved did an outstanding job of taking what initially appeared to be a simple trespassing call and uncovering a much more complex narcotics, theft, and fraud investigation,” said Police Chief Keith Messer. “Their work not only removed dangerous drugs from our community but also disrupted a theft and fraud operation that could have impacted numerous local businesses and residents.”
The investigation was led by Narcotics Task Force Officer Conner Emily and Sgt. Austin Grunden. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
