Noida Police have arrested three individuals in two separate cyber fraud cases in Phase 1, involving fake job postings and online betting operations.
On Monday, Vishal Kumar (23) was arrested as the alleged mastermind behind a fake call center that duped unemployed youth under the pretext of offering jobs in MNCs. Police said Kumar and his gang charged between Rs4,000 and Rs25,000 as registration fees. They created fake email IDs in the names of well-known companies, issued bogus offer letters, and instructed victims to deposit money into multiple fake bank accounts.
Authorities recovered a laptop, three chequebooks, three passbooks, 19 debit cards, 29 SIM cards, and 30 mobile phones from his possession. Kumar reportedly worked with a team that included seven women, who were issued notices under Section 41-A of the law, although they were not arrested at this stage.
ADCP Shavya Goyal stated that the gang also contacted random people, claiming pending company payments, and tricked them into transferring funds, using genuine individuals’ bank accounts to route fraudulent money.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, police arrested Sachin Goswami (33) and Kunal Goswami (22), both from Delhi’s Sector 2, for operating a fake call center promoting online gaming and betting apps. Victims were initially asked to place small bets, which could be withdrawn to build trust. Once confidence was gained, larger amounts were invested and subsequently siphoned into various accounts.
Cases have been registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for cheating by personation and provisions of the IT Act. Investigation is ongoing to identify other members of the networks and trace further defrauded funds.
