SKOWHEGAN, Maine — Maine State Police have arrested Dane Burke, 55, in connection with the death of his girlfriend, Nichole Jackson, 46, who was found dead Wednesday night at a residence on West Front Street in Skowhegan.
Skowhegan police responded to a 911 call at 11:37 p.m., finding Jackson unresponsive inside her home. The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit Central assisted with the investigation. An autopsy conducted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta determined the cause of death was blunt and sharp force trauma, ruling it a homicide.
Burke, Jackson’s boyfriend, was identified as a suspect. Authorities believed he was traveling in a 2018 Jeep Compass with Ohio plates. Massachusetts police attempted to stop the vehicle in Lowell Saturday morning, but Burke did not comply. The pursuit continued into New Hampshire, where the car crashed into a tree on Route 13 in Dunbarton.
Burke reportedly barricaded himself in the vehicle until the New Hampshire State Police SWAT Team took him into custody around 10:30 a.m. He was transported to Concord Hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.
Burke was arrested on a Maine warrant and faces murder charges. He will remain in New Hampshire until his extradition to Maine. The investigation is ongoing.
