The Kukatpally police have arrested three individuals in connection with the murder of Syed Shahed (26), a known history-sheeter, in Prakash Nagar, Kukatpally. Shahed was reportedly stabbed and bludgeoned to death late on Sunday.
The arrested suspects were identified as Y Hanak (alias Munna, 25), Md Sameer Khan (alias Dagad Sameer, 25), both residents of Borabanda, and Md Sajid (24) of Moulali. They were presented before a local court and remanded to judicial custody on Wednesday.
According to Balanagar DCP K Suresh Kumar, the trio were once close associates of Shahed but conspired to kill him due to personal rivalry. Sajid, who has over 20,000 Instagram followers and earns by promoting events, was upset because Shahed demanded Rs 5,000 monthly from him. The other two accused sought dominance in the Borabanda area.
On the night of June 29, the accused invited Shahed to an isolated location behind Dev Istana Homes in Prakash Nagar under the pretext of celebrating a friend’s birthday. Nine people attended the gathering. After the cake-cutting ceremony, Sameer left with five others, signaling Munna and Sajid to carry out the attack. Sajid allegedly slit Shahed’s throat with a broken beer bottle, while Munna bludgeoned his head with boulders, killing him on the spot.
Police recovered clothes worn during the attack, four mobile phones, liquor bottles, and the boulders used in the murder. CCTV footage and mobile phone records helped identify the accused.
Among the arrested, Sameer is a history-sheeter with multiple previous cases, including theft, cheating, harassment, and a prior murder case registered at various police stations in Hyderabad.
