After evading arrest for 24 years, 60-year-old M Nallathambi was apprehended on Sunday at Umblikkampatti village in Salem district.
Nallathambi, who was 34 at the time, reportedly had an extramarital relationship with S Rani, 35, in the year 2000. Rani, who had separated from her husband, ended the relationship, which allegedly led Nallathambi to murder her the same year.
After committing the crime, Nallathambi fled and remained on the run, hiding in Andhra Pradesh and working in various hotels to avoid detection.
The Deevattipatti police arrested Nallathambi when he returned to his hometown. Following his arrest, he was produced before a judicial magistrate and remanded to judicial custody.
