Detectives in Kirinyaga East have arrested two suspects in connection with the murder of 72-year-old Margaret Wandauma Maina, whose body was discovered in December last year.
Wandauma’s body was found on December 14, 2025, in a secluded thicket in Kegua Village, Kerugoya East Sub-County, following a tip-off from a member of the public who reported seeing an unidentified female body in the area.
Police officers who responded to the scene found the deceased partially unclothed, with visible injuries on her forehead. Several personal items were recovered at the site, including a duplicate national identity card, an Equity Bank ATM card, and an Itel mobile phone believed to belong to the victim.
The body was later transferred to Kibugi Funeral Home, where it is being preserved pending a post-mortem examination.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Wandauma was last seen alive on December 13, 2025, at Muthigiini Shopping Centre. She reportedly left Rome Bar at around 5:40 p.m. and never returned home.
Following the discovery, police launched an intensive manhunt for the suspects. Acting on forensic evidence and investigative leads, detectives arrested 42-year-old James Njiru Murimi and 35-year-old Peter Mbogo Wanjerina.
The two suspects are currently being held in police custody as investigations continue and are expected to be arraigned in court once processing is complete.
