Daleon Rice Charged in EKCC Inmate Death

Robert Broyles found dead at Eastern Kentucky prison

WEST LIBERTY, Ky. — An inmate at the Eastern Kentucky Correctional Complex (EKCC) has been charged in connection with the death of another inmate, according to Kentucky State Police (KSP).

On Sept. 18, 2025, a Morgan County Grand Jury returned an indictment against Daleon Rice, 45, charging him with murder and persistent felony offender of the first degree.

The charges follow a death investigation initiated on Aug. 31, 2025, after authorities were contacted regarding Robert Broyles, 34, of Louisville. Broyles was discovered unresponsive in his cell at around 8:50 a.m. during morning count.

KSP reported that life-saving measures were attempted, and Broyles was transported to Morgan County ARH Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death remains ongoing.
