GREENVILLE, N.C. — A Greenville woman has been arrested in connection with the deaths of three dogs, according to the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office and online court records.

Morgan Paige Hemby, 36, was taken into custody Monday, Jan. 5, 2026, and charged with three counts of felony cruelty to animals. The alleged offenses occurred on Dec. 28, 2025.

Authorities said deputies and Pitt County Animal Control responded around 8:30 a.m. on Dec. 27, 2025, to a report of animal cruelty at a residence on Elaina Drive. The reporting party led officials to three deceased dogs found in cages in the woods behind the home. The dogs were identified as two pit bulls and one American bulldog retriever, all in advanced stages of decay.

According to the report, the reporting party had been incarcerated from July through December 2025 and stated that Hemby was responsible for caring for the animals during that time. Upon his release, he discovered the cages had been moved to the wooded area and the dogs were dead.

After reviewing the investigation, a magistrate issued arrest warrants charging Hemby with three counts of felony cruelty to animals. Hemby surrendered at the magistrate’s office on Jan. 5, 2026, and was booked into the Pitt County Detention Center under a $45,000 secured bond, where she remains in custody.
