Goa police have arrested Russian national Aleksei Leonov in connection with a gruesome double murder of his compatriots in northern Goa. The victims, Elena Vaneeva (37) and Elena Kasthanova (37), were killed in the villages of Morjim and Arambol earlier this year.
According to police reports, Leonov first attacked Elena Vaneeva in Morjim, slashing her neck with a knife late at night on January 14. The incident came to light after Vaneeva’s landlady filed a complaint post 11 p.m., prompting authorities to investigate.
The following day, Leonov allegedly traveled approximately eight kilometers to Arambol, where he murdered Elena Kasthanova. She was reportedly restrained with rope-like material before her throat was slit on January 15.
The bodies were discovered on Friday, and Mandrem police have launched an ongoing investigation into the shocking crimes. Leonov has been taken into custody, and further inquiries are underway to determine the motive and circumstances of the killings.
