Aurangabad police have arrested Sanyukta Devi, mother of two minor children, for allegedly poisoning them following a domestic dispute with her husband, officials said.
The tragic incident took place on December 8 in Pathra village under Khudwa police station. The victims, aged six and eight, fell seriously ill after consuming sweets and later died during treatment.
Initially, Sanyukta Devi lodged a complaint claiming unknown persons had poisoned her children. However, investigators found no evidence supporting her claim, turning suspicion toward family members.
During questioning, Devi’s statements were found inconsistent. She eventually confessed to mixing sulphas, a pesticide, in laddoos and giving them to her children, while also consuming some herself. The police noted she did not display typical symptoms of poisoning, raising further suspicion.
Devi revealed that the act was triggered by a heated argument with her husband, Ravi Bharti, who works in another state, and their ongoing domestic conflicts. She was taken into custody and later sent to jail, Khudwa police said.
