City police’s crime branch arrested an alleged drug trafficker, Ravi Kushwah (23), and seized 85 grams of smack valued at approximately Rs 17 lakh in an intelligence-led raid in Ashok Nagar, officials said Sunday.
The arrest took place on Saturday night when Kushwah arrived with a fresh supply of narcotics. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, police set up a trap and apprehended him as he entered the area. A search recovered the contraband, after which he was taken into custody.
Police stated that Kushwah, a resident of Bhind district in Madhya Pradesh, had been living in a slum settlement in Ashok Nagar’s Bhojpura area. He allegedly operated a prolonged drug trafficking network from the locality, sourcing narcotics from outside the state and using residential clusters to evade detection.
The operation followed alerts from the crime branch’s intelligence unit regarding a supplier expected to deliver narcotics in the area. Teams conducted discreet surveillance and intercepted Kushwah upon his arrival.
The seized contraband is valued at around Rs 17 lakh in the international market. After the arrest, Kushwah was handed over to Ashok Nagar police station for interrogation. Investigators are tracing the supply chain, identifying buyers, and mapping links to a potential larger network.
Police are scrutinizing his movements, contacts, and financial transactions to uncover the full extent of the trafficking operation.
