CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. — A Wadmalaw Island woman has been arrested and charged with murder after a man was found dead in the roadway in early December, authorities report.
Police identified the suspect as 28-year-old Phoebe Grace Armstrong, who was taken into custody on Tuesday, Dec. 16.
Deputies initially responded to the 2400 block of North Edenvale Road on Dec. 1 after receiving reports of an unresponsive man in the road. The victim was located nearby on Whistler Road, showing tire marks on his body, and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO).
While officers were on site, Armstrong drove past in a BMW and was stopped. Investigators observed dried blood on her vehicle. After reviewing her statements, phone GPS data, and video evidence, she was arrested.
An affidavit indicates that Armstrong and the victim had an extensive history of domestic disputes, and video from her phone captured the victim walking away from her vehicle during an argument. GPS tracking showed she later drove to a Circle K on Maybank Highway, where surveillance footage captured her walking around her car using her phone flashlight.
Armstrong was booked at the Al Cannon Detention Center. The Charleston County Coroner’s Office will release the victim’s identity when appropriate, CCSO said.
