Panama City Officer Arrested for Forging Husband’s Signature

Quitclaim deed allegedly falsified to sell home

by Sophia Bennett

Panama City, FL — A Panama City police officer has been charged with forgery for allegedly faking her husband’s signature to sell their home while he was in jail.

Bay County Sheriff’s deputies said a quitclaim deed filed at the Bay County Courthouse contained a forged signature. Investigators believe Kerrie Raffield, 46, attempted to forge her husband Michael Raffield’s name while he was incarcerated at the Bay County Jail, where he has been held since May 25, 2021.

Panama City Police confirmed the officer has been suspended and that an internal investigation is ongoing. Under Florida law, the department is not required to publicly release the officer’s identity during the investigation. However, News 13 independently confirmed the officer’s identity as Kerrie Raffield.

The case remains under investigation by Bay County Sheriff’s Office criminal investigators.
