LAUREL, Miss. — A Laurel man who was already out on bond for a previous grand larceny arrest was taken into custody again after police say he stole a wallet and fraudulently used a credit card found inside.
The Laurel Police Department arrested Jason Craven, 49, charging him with credit card intent to defraud, according to Sgt. Macon Davis.
Police said the incident occurred at a gas station on Highway 15 North, where a Hispanic male accidentally left his wallet on the counter. Investigators allege Craven picked up the wallet and left the store with it.
“Jason helped himself to the wallet and ran up multiple charges on the card,” Davis said. “He was already out on bond for grand larceny.”
After the victim filed a report, officers were able to track Craven down and place him under arrest. Authorities did not release the total amount charged to the credit card.
Sgt. Davis urged residents to be cautious with personal belongings while in public places.
“Don’t leave your wallet or purse on a public counter, even for a second,” Davis said. “That one small mistake can turn into a major problem.”
Craven is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
