John O’Leary Arrested in Galesburg Human Trafficking Case

Chicago man faces child exploitation and meth charges

GALESBURG, Ill. — A Chicago man was arrested in Knox County following a human trafficking enforcement operation conducted by the Illinois State Police (ISP) Illinois Trafficking Enforcement Group (ITEG).

John O’Leary, 41, faces multiple charges, including Promoting Commercial Sexual Exploitation of a Child, Indecent Solicitation of a Child, Traveling to Meet a Minor, Possession of Methamphetamine under 5 grams, and Grooming.

The arrest was made on December 18, 2025, during a Human Trafficking Demand Suppression Operation near Galesburg. The operation was a coordinated effort involving the Quad City Metropolitan Enforcement Group, Zone 2 Major Crimes Unit, ISP Investigative Support Unit, ISP SWAT, Galesburg Police Department, North Central Narcotics Task Force, and Troopers from Troops 3 and 4, with support from the Knox County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Human trafficking involves using force, fraud, or coercion to compel individuals into commercial sex, labor, or services against their will. ISP emphasized that operations like this are part of its ongoing commitment to protect vulnerable individuals across Illinois.
