Dale Collier Charged with Attempted First-Degree Murder

Mattoon man faces new charge after hit-and-run incident

MATTOON, Ill. — Dale W. Collier, 53, was initially arrested on charges of attempted reckless homicide (attempted involuntary manslaughter) following a hit-and-run incident in Mattoon, Illinois.

During the investigation, the Coles County State’s Attorney’s Office upgraded the charges to attempted first-degree murder due to circumstances uncovered by authorities.

The case began when Mattoon Police responded to a call about a vehicle striking an adult. Despite the severity of the incident, police confirmed that the victim is in good condition.

Collier is currently being held at the Coles County Detention Center pending further legal proceedings.
