Alfred Jackson Arrested in LA Identity Theft Check Scam

Police continue search for accomplice known as “Manuel”

LOS ANGELES — Police are continuing to search for a second suspect following the arrest of a man previously identified only as “Igor” in an identity theft and counterfeit check scheme, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

With help from community tips and local media coverage, detectives from LAPD’s Commercial Crimes Division confirmed that “Igor” is Alfred Earl Jackson, a 38-year-old Los Angeles resident. The department announced the identification in a social media post on Wednesday.

Jackson was arrested by LAPD patrol officers on Dec. 30 near South Olive Street and West Eighth Street in downtown Los Angeles.

Investigators say Jackson and an accomplice, known only as “Manuel,” allegedly used stolen personal identification information to apply for apartment rentals. In September, authorities said the suspects submitted rental applications at three separate properties in the Hollywood and Larchmont neighborhoods.

Police allege the suspects used other individuals’ personal information to complete the applications and provided counterfeit cashier’s checks to property management companies as part of the rental process.

LAPD previously released images of both suspects amid concerns that additional landlords and property managers may have been targeted in similar fraud attempts.

The second suspect, “Manuel,” is described as a Black man between 20 and 30 years old with black braided hair and a goatee. Detectives are asking anyone with information about his identity or whereabouts to contact LAPD.

Jackson is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 23.
