Haryana police have arrested Ashok Kumar, an inspector with the Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs Department, for his alleged role in diverting wheat worth lakhs from the buffer stock at a godown in Kunjpura.
According to DSP Rajiv Kumar, a case was registered against Ashok Kumar following a complaint by a department official. The police are gathering evidence to ensure strict legal action, with no accused spared. Ashok Kumar was produced before the court and remanded to police custody for three days.
The irregularities came to light when the inspector allegedly refused to release wheat for depot supply, citing that the stock was “unfit for distribution.” The claim proved false, prompting the Director of the department to form an inquiry committee.
During the investigation, significant discrepancies were found at the Kunjpura godown. The wheat stock was transferred to Karnal for verification, revealing that many bags were underweight and around 4,900 bags were missing. The total missing quantity amounted to approximately 2,500 quintals, valued at roughly Rs 68 lakh. Investigators suspect the wheat was siphoned off and sold on the open market.
Officials noted that bags marked as 50 kg were grossly underweight, highlighting large-scale manipulation of stock records. The inquiry and police investigation are ongoing to identify all parties involved in the scam.
