Pedakakani police have arrested 14 individuals involved in the sale and consumption of cannabis and seized nearly 5 kilograms of ganja in Pedakakani mandal, Guntur district. Guntur Superintendent of Police Vakul Jindal detailed the case at a press conference on Sunday.
Following credible information about ganja being stored, sold, and consumed in Pedakakani village, police conducted raids at suspected locations, including an abandoned shed near the Primary Health Centre. Some suspects attempted to flee but were caught after a brief chase.
About 4.8 kilograms of ganja were seized from four sellers identified as Mutyala Ramana Rao alias Rocky, Noone Yohanu, Omkar, and Vemuri Sharon alias Rakesh. Interrogation revealed that the accused procured ganja from outside the district and distributed it locally in small packets.
Based on the sellers’ statements, police identified 10 more individuals who had purchased or consumed ganja. About 150 grams of cannabis in small sachets were recovered from these users, all of whom admitted to involvement in buying, selling, or consuming the drug.
SP Vakul Jindal noted that some of the arrested have prior criminal cases, including those related to ganja, theft, and assaults, indicating a recurring pattern of illegal activity.
All accused have been booked under the NDPS Act and will be produced before the court for remand. Police investigations are ongoing to trace the source of the ganja and identify others in the supply chain. The SP emphasized that strict measures will continue to curb drug trafficking and make Guntur district drug-free.
