Evansville police arrested a man early Thursday morning after a traffic stop led to the discovery of a large quantity of narcotics and a firearm, authorities said.
The suspect, 42-year-old Damon Maffett, reportedly refused to stop during a traffic stop and sped through a stop sign on Weinbach Avenue. Officers discontinued the pursuit for safety reasons but later located Maffett’s vehicle in the 1400 block of S. Harlan Avenue.
Police found Maffett hiding behind a nearby house and followed his footprints in the snow, which led to a handgun, a plastic baggie testing positive for THC, and a black sock containing narcotics. Thermal imaging indicated the items had been recently placed.
According to the affidavit, officers recovered:
102.8 grams of methamphetamine
7.3 grams of cocaine
29.9 grams of a green leafy substance testing positive for THC
A pill bottle containing hydrocodone
Maffett was charged with dealing methamphetamine, possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of marijuana and cocaine, and resisting law enforcement. He is being held without bond at the Vanderburgh County Jail.
