An Evansville man was arrested and charged with dealing methamphetamine after a routine traffic stop early Saturday morning, authorities said.
Evansville police stopped 43-year-old David Stoddard at the intersection of E. Walnut Street and S. Fares Avenue at approximately 12:59 a.m. on January 3. Officers noted that Stoddard’s vehicle had an unreadable license plate with a significant portion missing.
A records check revealed Stoddard had an active misdemeanor warrant from Vanderburgh County. He was taken into custody without incident.
During a search, officers recovered a baggie containing a white, crystal-like substance that field-tested positive for methamphetamine, weighing approximately 15.96 grams. Police also seized $2,554 in cash from Stoddard’s hoodie pocket and a Samsung phone, which authorities say are being held as evidence in connection with alleged drug distribution.
According to police, the amount of meth and the cash on Stoddard are consistent with distribution-level activity.
Stoddard was booked into Vanderburgh County Jail and faces multiple charges, including:
Dealing methamphetamine
Possession of marijuana
Improper display or obstructed license plate
Operating with expired plates
Operating without proof of financial responsibility
Authorities emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
