by Sophia Bennett

Tupelo, Miss. – Police used a license plate reader and quick thinking to apprehend three suspects involved in a series of vehicle thefts in the city on November 19. Jordan Smith, Jakius Coleman, and Taellis Edwards, all of Tupelo, were arrested after a stolen car was flagged by the license plate reader as it entered the city.

While officers were arresting one suspect, a second stolen vehicle almost collided with a patrol car, leading to a chase through Tupelo. The suspects were eventually apprehended, and charges include two counts of Grand Larceny, Taking of a Motor Vehicle, and three counts of Burglary of a Vehicle.

Authorities indicated that other law enforcement agencies may have additional charges and that further arrests are possible as the investigation continues.
