The Delhi Police arrested two individuals allegedly involved in ATM fraud in the South-West District. The arrests were made by staff of Kishangarh Police Station as part of intensified patrolling and surveillance to curb crime.
The accused have been identified as:
Salman, son of Kabir
Salman, son of Usman
During the operation, police recovered:
One country-made pistol (desi katta)
Two live cartridges
Rs 12,700 in cash
Four ATM jamming devices
One screwdriver allegedly used to tamper with ATM shutters
The incident came to light during routine patrolling on January 1, when Head Constables Subhash and Hitender spotted a suspicious individual in Kishangarh. The person attempted to flee but was caught, and a pistol was recovered from his possession. The Duty Officer and Sub-Inspector Kamal Chaudhary completed the necessary legal formalities, and a case (FIR No. 02/2026 under Section 25 of the Arms Act) was registered.
During interrogation, Salman, son of Kabir, admitted to committing ATM fraud and revealed his co-accused, Salman, son of Usman, who supplied the illegal firearm. The co-accused was subsequently apprehended, and two live cartridges were recovered from him.
Police investigations revealed the modus operandi: the accused inserted small metallic jamming clips into ATM cash dispensers. When customers attempted withdrawals, the cash would not dispense, though the amount was debited. Assuming a technical error, victims would leave, and the accused would later retrieve the trapped cash. To protect themselves during the crimes, the duo allegedly carried illegal firearms.
Further investigation is ongoing.
