BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — A Birmingham woman is in custody following a double homicide in the Ensley neighborhood late Saturday night.
35-year-old Jasmine Allen has been charged with two counts of capital murder and one count of attempted murder.
According to the Birmingham Police Department, the shooting occurred just before 11:30 p.m. in the 1400 block of 20th Place Ensley. Three people were shot, including two men and a woman.
The deceased have been identified as 43-year-old Sonny Dewayne Arrington and 76-year-old Carlton Rufus Allen. The woman’s injuries are not considered life-threatening, police said.
Authorities believe the incident is domestic in nature. Police stated that Allen, a family member, allegedly fired into an apartment where the victims were located.
The department also thanked the Bessemer Police Department for assisting in apprehending the suspect. Allen was arrested within two hours of the shooting in the 4700 block of Little Drive in Bessemer, tracked by the BPD Special Enforcement Team. She is being held at Jefferson County Jail without bond.
