The Shivaji Park Police have registered an FIR under Section 180 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, following the seizure of counterfeit Indian currency notes from a suspect in Dadar West, Mumbai.
The incident occurred on December 31, 2025, at around 5:05 pm, while officers from the Crime Detection Unit (CDU) were on routine patrol within the jurisdiction of Shivaji Park Police Station. PSI Mangesh Jamdade and his team noticed a man behaving suspiciously near Shagun Hotel, DeSilva Galli, and decided to stop and question him.
The suspect was searched in the presence of two panch witnesses, during which police recovered 144 fake Indian currency notes of Rs500 denomination, concealed inside the inner pocket of his underwear. The total face value of the seized counterfeit notes is Rs72,000.
The fake currency was seized for forensic examination, and a case was registered against the accused.
Police identified the arrested individual as Amruddin Alihussain Sheikh, a labourer originally from Amanat Ghasi Tola in Sahibganj district, Jharkhand, and currently residing at S Sanders Road, Byculla West, Mumbai.
Investigators revealed that the accused has a history of criminal offences. He has previously been booked in multiple cases across Mumbai and Maharashtra, including offences registered at Andheri, D B Marg, Narul, Bhoiwada, and Ambernath police stations, under various sections of the BNS, IPC, Gambling Act, and Maharashtra Police Act. A total of six prior offences have been registered against him.
Further investigation is underway to determine the source of the counterfeit currency and identify possible links to a larger fake currency circulation network.
