The Crime Branch Unit of Thane City Police has arrested a man involved in the inter-state smuggling of narcotic substances, seizing a massive consignment of ganja worth over Rs2.14 crore.
Based on confidential information received by Police Constable Jaykar Jadhav, a trap was laid on Thursday, December 30, 2025, at around 6:15 pm on the service road near Kapurbawdi Naka, Thane, approximately 100 metres ahead towards Thane city.
During the operation, police intercepted an Indigo car bearing registration number AP-09-BF-9382. Upon thorough inspection, officers recovered 638 kilograms of ganja that was being illegally transported from Odisha and the Andhra Pradesh–Telangana region.
According to police, the seized ganja is valued at Rs2,04,16,000, while the vehicle used for transportation is estimated to be worth Rs10,00,000, taking the total seizure value to R2,14,16,000.
The accused has been identified as Isam alias Chinna Tiger Lakshman Nayak (36), a resident of Gajulaya Tanda, Kamanur village, Markapur taluka, originally from the Medak district of Telangana / Andhra Pradesh. He was arrested on the spot.
A case has been registered at Thane Police Station under Crime No. 958/2025 for offences punishable under Sections 8(c), 20(b), and 29 of the NDPS Act, 1985.
The accused has been remanded to police custody till January 3, 2026, and further investigation is underway to identify other members of the drug trafficking network and trace the supply chain.
