Amol Chopra, Saksham Khandelwal Held in Cyber Scam

Phones hacked using fake links, cards misused for purchases

City police on Thursday busted a cyber financial fraud racket and arrested two men accused of hacking mobile phones and misusing victims’ banking details to make fraudulent online purchases.

Police Commissioner Sachin Mittal identified the arrested accused as Amol Chopra and Saksham Khandelwal, adding that multiple teams have been formed to trace and apprehend other members associated with the criminal network.

According to investigators, the accused sent fake and malicious links to unsuspecting users, enabling them to hack mobile phones and gain access to sensitive financial information. Once access was obtained, the gang allegedly misused victims’ credit and debit card details to place high-value orders on platforms such as Flipkart, Amazon, Swiggy, Zepto, and Blinkit.

Police said several purchases were deliberately routed through instant-delivery services to minimise the detection window and evade timely blocking of transactions.

The racket came to light following a tip-off from an informer. Based on confidential inputs and technical surveillance, police tracked the digital trail leading to the accused. “Our teams identified the suspects, mapped their digital footprint, and dismantled a crucial part of the network,” Commissioner Mittal said.

DCP (Crime) Abhijit Singh revealed that the accused used third-party payment applications and digital identity theft techniques to mask transactions. “We also found evidence suggesting that mobile phones procured through cyber fraud were being routed out of the country via Nepal,” he said.

Investigators further disclosed that the accused relied heavily on cryptocurrency transactions to conceal money trails. Preliminary findings point towards international linkages, and police are currently probing cross-border financial flows, digital wallets, and crypto assets connected to the case.

Further investigation is underway.
