by Sophia Bennett

BOISE, Idaho — Boise Police arrested a Caldwell man on major drug trafficking charges after a routine traffic stop led to the seizure of large amounts of methamphetamine and fentanyl, authorities said.

Adrian Velasco, 55, was taken into custody on Dec. 2, 2025, after officers stopped his vehicle for running a red light. During the stop, police observed indicators consistent with possible drug activity. A narcotics detection K9 was called to the scene and alerted officers to the presence of drugs, prompting a search of the vehicle.

Police said the search uncovered more than 116 grams of methamphetamine. Velasco was booked into the Ada County Jail as the investigation continued.

Officers later connected the case to a Boise hotel room, where they discovered a much larger cache of illegal substances. Authorities said approximately 12,785 grams of methamphetamine and 101 grams of fentanyl powder were recovered. Both substances tested presumptively positive.

Boise Police Lt. Terry Weir described the seizure as a significant blow to drug distribution in the area, emphasizing the dangers posed by methamphetamine and fentanyl to the community.

The investigation remains active, and police said additional charges could be filed as detectives continue their work.
