Jharkhand Police on Tuesday arrested three men for allegedly amassing assets worth more than Rs85 lakh through cyber fraud, a senior police official said.
Acting on a specific tip-off, police teams apprehended the accused from the Telkhari jungle area under the jurisdiction of Gandey police station.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Khurshid Ansari, a resident of Dharleto village, and Alamgir Ansari and Md Sharafat Ansari, both hailing from Deoghar district.
Superintendent of Police Vimal Kumar said the trio were involved in inter-state cyber crime activities. He added that Md Sharafat Ansari already had two criminal cases registered against him—one at Bilaspur police station in Chhattisgarh and another at Rudrapur police station in Uttarakhand. Sharafat had also served a jail term in one of the cases and is believed to have acquired properties worth over Rs60 lakh through cyber fraud.
According to police, Alamgir Ansari also accumulated assets valued at more than Rs25 lakh through similar fraudulent activities.
During interrogation, the accused revealed that they would upload fake mobile numbers on Google, impersonate customer care executives of various companies, and send fraudulent APK file links posing as bank or wallet applications. Victims were then cheated using these deceptive methods, police said.
From the possession of the accused, police recovered eight mobile phones, 10 SIM cards, two motorcycles, two ATM cards, Aadhaar cards, PAN cards, and driving licences. Further investigation is underway to trace additional victims and financial transactions linked to the cyber fraud network, officials added.
