East Texas Men Sentenced for Meth Trafficking

James Porter and Richard Sledge receive federal prison terms

TYLER, Texas — Two East Texas men have been sentenced to federal prison for distributing methamphetamine in the region.

James Robert Porter, 47, of Henderson, received a 100-month sentence, while Richard Lynn Sledge, 67, of Athens, was sentenced to 30 months. Both men had pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.

Court records indicate that in 2023, Porter and Sledge sold 25.49 grams of methamphetamine in Henderson for $350. Porter also sold 51.2 grams to another individual for $625. When Porter was arrested in July 2024, authorities recovered 24.04 grams of methamphetamine from his vehicle and business premises.

The investigation was conducted by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, Texas Department of Public Safety, Henderson Police Department, and Rusk County Sheriff’s Office.
