Balasore Police have arrested Ram Chandra Singh (22) and his paramour Jemamani Singh (27) in connection with the murder of 30-year-old Akash Mohanta at a hotel in Balasore district.
According to police, the duo strangled Akash to death and fled the scene, leaving his body in the hotel room. Investigations revealed that all three — Akash, Ram Chandra, and Jemamani — had traveled from Badjambani village in Mayurbhanj district on December 25, picking up Jemamani from Betnati en route.
The trio had checked into a hotel in Balasore using Aadhaar cards — Ram Chandra and Jemamani’s were reportedly fake, while Akash’s was genuine. All three individuals were married, and Jemamani resides separately from her husband in Jajpur with two children.
Police stated that Akash and Ram Chandra consumed alcohol at the hotel, and a dispute broke out after Akash allegedly sought sexual favors from Jemamani, which she resisted. This confrontation escalated, resulting in Ram Chandra and Jemamani allegedly throttling Akash to death.
Balasore city DSP Nirmala Gochayat confirmed that the accused were arrested from Mayurbhanj and Jajpur, respectively, following the murder. Further investigation is ongoing.
