Anthony Alonzo Arrested After I-77 Police Chase

Mooresville pursuit ends in Salisbury arrest

SALISBURY, N.C. — A Statesville man was arrested early Saturday morning following a police pursuit that began in Mooresville and ended in Salisbury, according to Mooresville police.

Officers said they attempted to stop a vehicle on Interstate 77 around 12:30 a.m. on Dec. 28 after observing it speeding and appearing to race two other vehicles. Police reported that the driver failed to stop and fled northbound on I-77, prompting a pursuit.

Authorities said the vehicle exited at Exit 49A in Statesville, continued east on U.S. Highway 70 into Salisbury, and eventually stopped after turning onto Lash Drive. The driver, identified as 20-year-old Anthony Alonzo, was taken into custody. A passenger in the vehicle was released without charges.

Alonzo, who resides in Statesville, was charged with felony fleeing to elude arrest along with additional traffic violations. A magistrate set his bond at $50,000 secured. Police also seized the 2018 Toyota GT86 coupe Alonzo was driving at the time of the incident.
