The TT Nagar police on Wednesday solved a blind murder case reported from the Panchsheel Nagar area within 24 hours, arresting the victim’s boyfriend for allegedly killing her over a relationship dispute.
The accused, Mubeen Khan (20), was taken into custody after sustained interrogation and later confessed to the crime. Based on his disclosure, police recovered the knife used to slit the victim’s throat. He was produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody.
According to police, the 19-year-old woman was found dead in her room around 7.30 am on Tuesday. Preliminary examination revealed that her throat had been slit with a sharp weapon. In an attempt to mislead investigators, the accused had placed a shaving blade at the crime scene. The body was sent for post-mortem and later handed over to the family.
Given the gravity of the case, DCP (Zone-1) Shashank constituted a special investigation team led by TT Nagar SHO Gaurav Singh. Police questioned nearly a dozen suspects before zeroing in on Mubeen Khan, who lived in the same neighbourhood as the deceased.
During interrogation, Mubeen admitted to killing the woman by slitting her throat in the early hours of Monday night. The murder weapon was later recovered at his instance.
Police said Mubeen worked as a tailor and had been in a relationship with the victim for the past six to seven months. However, around two months ago, the woman’s family arranged her engagement with a man from Koh-e-Fiza, with the wedding scheduled for October.
Upset by the development, Mubeen repeatedly pressured her to break off the engagement. When she refused and expressed her intention to marry as per her family’s wishes, he allegedly decided to kill her.
On Monday night, Mubeen reportedly entered the house through the terrace of an adjacent building — a route he had used earlier to visit her room. At around 3 am, he attacked the woman with a knife, slit her throat, and fled through the rear door.
Police said further investigation is underway to verify additional details and circumstances related to the crime.
