YORK, Neb. — Five individuals face charges after authorities discovered a young girl living in unsafe conditions and exposed to drugs, including methamphetamine and marijuana, at a York residence.
On Dec. 5, a York County Sheriff’s Office sergeant went to the home of Lynn Desantiago, 37, to serve civil process papers and noticed the smell of burnt marijuana while seeing a child inside. Later that day, police and deputies executed a search warrant at the residence.
Officials described the home as heavily smelling of marijuana and cigarette smoke. Investigators noted unsanitary conditions, including a basement covered in dirt and grime, mouse feces in storage baskets near a child’s bedroom, and a bathroom toilet covered in feces. A sign in the home reportedly read, “In this house, we smoke it, eat it, vape it … we believe in weed.”
Authorities found numerous bottles of medication in a room where the 6-year-old slept, along with narcotics and drug paraphernalia throughout the home.
Krystal Desantiago was arrested on charges including child abuse without injury, two counts of controlled substance possession, intentional violation of narcotic drug law, and possession of marijuana.
Lynn Desantiago and other residents — Brandon Desantiago, 18; Antonio Desantiago, 19; and Katherine Desantiago, 60 — were also arrested for child abuse, no injury.
All five had their bond set at $25,000. Authorities continue to investigate the unsafe living conditions and drug exposure at the home.
