Ammapettai police arrested a 62-year-old man, Balakrishnan, on Monday for the alleged murder of his son, Nandagopal, following a violent dispute that took place on October 30. Balakrishnan, a retired electricity board worker from Koneripatti, had been living with his wife, Sayee, 55, and their 32-year-old son.
According to police reports, both Balakrishnan and Nandagopal were intoxicated when an argument escalated into violence. During the altercation, Nandagopal reportedly attacked his parents with a brick, resulting in a head injury to himself. His parents rushed him to a private hospital in Poonachi before transferring him to several other medical facilities in Erode and eventually to the Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College and Hospital in Salem. Tragically, Nandagopal succumbed to his injuries on November 3.
Balakrishnan was arrested after an investigation into the incident, and the case is ongoing as police gather more details surrounding the tragic events.
