6 from West Bengal Held for Smuggling Ganja via Keonjhar

Police seize 80.71 kg ganja worth Rs10 lakh during night patrol

In a major anti-drug operation, Keonjhar Sadar Police in Odisha arrested six individuals from West Bengal on Thursday evening for allegedly smuggling ganja worth approximately Rs10 lakh through Keonjhar district.

The arrested accused have been identified as:

Arijit Midde (23)

Gopal Bose (28)

Subodh Roy (25)

Saurabh Das (27)

Subir Mahto (24)

Tukai Das (25)

—all residents of West Bengal.

According to Amit Bhuyan, Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) of Sadar Police Station, police intercepted two vehicles near Anjar village along NH-49 during a routine night patrol on Wednesday. Upon inspection, six bags containing 80.71 kg of ganja were found concealed under the seats.

Following their arrest under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, the accused were produced in court on Friday evening after preliminary investigation.

Police sources revealed that the gang was operating a smuggling route from Boudh district to Kolkata and had previously used the same corridor multiple times to transport contraband undetected.

Authorities are continuing their investigation to uncover wider links and potential interstate drug networks.
