In a major drug bust, the Ranchi police seized 406 kilograms of cannabis worth approximately Rs 2 crore from a container truck on Thursday. The operation, which was carried out in the Ormanjhi police station area, led to the arrest of two truck drivers, Dharmveer Singh and Rajendra Singh, who were residents of Saraswati district in Uttar Pradesh and Dhanbad, respectively.

According to Ranchi SSP Chandan Kumar Sinha, the police had received a tip-off about a container truck that was illegally transporting cannabis from Sambalpur in Odisha to Ranchi. Acting on the information, a police team led by Dy SP Anuj Oraon intercepted the vehicle near Ukrid. Upon searching the truck, authorities found a hidden compartment behind the driver’s seat, which contained the illicit drugs.

The arrested individuals revealed that they had picked up the cannabis in Sambalpur and were supposed to deliver it to other operatives in Ramgarh. They also admitted that the drugs were being transported in this manner to make it more difficult for law enforcement to trace the main perpetrators behind the operation.

Police have gathered crucial information during the interrogation of the accused and will continue their investigation to uncover the larger drug trafficking network involved in the operation. The authorities remain committed to dismantling the illegal trade and catching the kingpins behind these illicit activities.
