OAK BROOK, Ill. – Five individuals, including four women and a teenager, are facing charges after committing two separate retail thefts at the Oak Brook Nordstrom Rack on Dec. 13, according to DuPage County officials. Among the charges is one for aggravated battery against a police officer during an arrest.
Shavaughn Johnson, 18, D’Errika Thrasher, 18, and Alanah Booker, 22, appeared in court Saturday to face multiple charges, including one count of burglary, a Class 2 felony, and one count of retail theft, a Class 3 felony. Johnson is also facing an additional charge of aggravated battery to a police officer, a Class 2 felony.
A 16-year-old girl was also charged with burglary and retail theft before being released into her mother’s custody.
In the first incident, Johnson, Thrasher, Booker, and the teen entered the Nordstrom Rack in Oak Brook at 8:30 p.m. They stole merchandise worth over $300, including clothing, fragrances, and Marc Jacobs gift boxes. The group was apprehended outside the store by Oak Brook police. Johnson allegedly resisted arrest, punching an officer in the chest and biting his right bicep, according to prosecutors.
Earlier that day, 19-year-old Darnella Williams entered the same Nordstrom Rack with an empty child car seat at 7 p.m. She filled the seat with more than $715 worth of merchandise, including clothing and cosmetics, and tried to leave the store. A loss prevention officer confronted her outside, and she was detained.
DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin emphasized that the actions of these individuals disrupted businesses and endangered public safety, especially during the busy holiday season. He praised the Oak Brook Police Department for their quick response to the thefts and their commitment to keeping the community safe.
Johnson, Thrasher, and Booker are scheduled to appear in court on January 6, 2025. Williams is set for arraignment on January 10, 2025.
As part of their release conditions, all four women and the juvenile are prohibited from entering the Oak Brook Nordstrom Rack, according to the state’s attorney.
