CLACKAMAS COUNTY, Ore. — The Clackamas County District Attorney’s Office released new details Thursday regarding the outcomes of a December 2024 retail theft crackdown that resulted in 30 arrests over a two-day period. The operation was led by the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office in collaboration with seven other law enforcement agencies.
As of April 21, the case statuses are as follows:
Convictions: 11
Cases pending or awaiting charges: 8
Defendants who failed to appear: 4
Cases dismissed: 2
Juveniles referred to Juvenile Department: 5
One additional defendant was arrested on an outstanding warrant and pleaded guilty.
Adult suspects were charged with theft in the second degree (for items valued between $100 and $1,000, a Class A misdemeanor) or theft in the third degree (for items under $100, a Class C misdemeanor). Some individuals faced additional charges, including drug possession and robbery, and several had open cases or warrants in other Oregon counties.
Highlighted Cases:
Peter Riley Lent, 26, pleaded guilty to theft in the second degree and received 12 months of bench probation. Lent was already on probation and had open robbery and theft cases in Washington and Multnomah counties. He is now serving a prison sentence after pleading guilty in those cases.
Ronald Lee Nida, 64, pleaded guilty to theft in the second degree and possession of methamphetamine. He was sentenced to 18 months of probation and two days in jail.
Jill Renee Lohr, 42, was cited for theft in the second degree but failed to appear in court on January 13. She currently has multiple outstanding warrants in Multnomah County for charges including possession of a stolen vehicle, DUII, and reckless driving.
The retail theft operation was supported by the Organized Retail Theft Grant Program, funded by Oregon Senate Bill 900 and managed by the Oregon Criminal Justice Commission. For fiscal year 2024–25, the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office was awarded $686,000 to support efforts to combat organized retail theft.
Participating agencies included the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office, Canby Police, Milwaukie Police, Molalla Police, Oregon City Police, Portland Police Bureau, West Linn Police, and the Oregon Department of Justice.
