In a significant drug enforcement operation on Friday, August 9, Uppinangady police arrested three individuals and seized a significant quantity of MDMA narcotics at a vehicle checkpoint.
Reports indicate that the operation, led by Uppinangady police station Sub-Inspector Avinash H and his team, took place at the Nekkiladi junction. The police signalled an auto rickshaw (registration number KA 21 C 3003) to stop, but the driver ignored the signal, accelerated, and attempted to flee on foot after parking the vehicle. A second person also tried to escape.
Both individuals were swiftly apprehended by the police. Upon questioning, their responses were inconsistent, prompting a search of the vehicle, which led to the discovery of 9.36 grams of MDMA, valued at approximately Rs 18,720, along with 15 small plastic covers.
The police seized the auto and the narcotics, arresting the suspects identified as Mohammed Nasir (24) from Kedila village, Bantwal taluk; Mohammed Asif B (21) from Enaaje Budoli, Peraje village, Bantwal taluk; and Sinan.
A case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at the local police station in connection with the incident.
