A 23-year-old man named Abhishek was arrested following a violent gunfight linked to a high-profile jewellery store robbery in Brij Vihar. The robbery on July 24 involved two men impersonating Swiggy and Blinkit delivery agents, stealing 125 grams of gold valued at Rs 30 lakh, 20 kg of silver, and Rs 30,000 cash from Mansi Jewellers.
After the theft, six suspects were already arrested, but Abhishek remained at large. Police had announced a Rs 25,000 reward for his capture.
On August 4, a joint operation by the SWAT team and Link Road police spotted Abhishek riding a motorcycle without a license plate near the Industrial Area outpost. When police signalled him to stop, he tried to flee and opened fire on the officers. Police returned fire in self-defense, injuring him in both legs. He was taken to a hospital and is currently stable.
From Abhishek, police recovered an illegal firearm, live and spent cartridges, Rs 6,000 linked to the robbery, and the stolen motorcycle.
During interrogation, Abhishek revealed that the stolen motorcycle and the Swiggy and Blinkit uniforms used during the robbery were handed over to the main accused, Kapil and Manish. Police also found that Abhishek had previous robbery and theft charges in Delhi.
All accused have been booked under Section 309 (4) of the BNS at Link Road police station. A video of the robbery circulated widely, showing the accused with faces covered by helmets, dressed as delivery agents.
