A 22-year-old history-sheeter was arrested by the Humayun Nagar police on Wednesday, January 29, in connection with the theft of a Duke bike. The accused, identified as Duppati Mahesh, a resident of UB Colony, Ammasari Venkat Reddy Nagar, Boduppal, was apprehended after the police tracked down CCTV footage related to the incident.
The theft was reported on January 17 by Pulipati Srikanth, a resident of Vijaynagar Colony in Asif Nagar, who found his Duke bike missing from its parking spot. Upon reviewing CCTV footage, police identified that the bike had been stolen between 2:55 am and 3:05 am. Further investigation revealed that Mahesh was the culprit behind the crime.
In addition to recovering the stolen Duke bike, police also seized another Duke bike, bringing the total worth of the stolen property to Rs5 lakh.
Duppati Mahesh, who has a long criminal record, has been involved in 20 previous cases since 2018, including charges under sections 356, 379, and 382 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), relating to theft and other crimes. He has been booked under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for the latest theft.
Police are continuing to investigate the case and urge the public to report any suspicious activities to prevent further crimes.
