In a major drug bust, excise officers arrested 22-year-old Adarsh from Venganoor on Monday night with 9.085 kg of ganja during a vehicle inspection. The authorities intercepted the vehicle based on a tip-off from Thirupuram excise range circle inspector Ratheesh R.
The officers had been tracking Adarsh after learning that he was a supplier of ganja. The tip came from a youth previously arrested for using ganja, who revealed that Adarsh had supplied him with the drug. The excise team kept Adarsh under surveillance for several days and later received information that he was traveling to Karnataka to purchase the narcotic. The officers arrested him on his return journey.
During the vehicle inspection, another individual, Vaibhav (23), also from Venganoor, was in the car with Adarsh. However, he managed to escape during the inspection and is currently on the run.
Adarsh was charged under Section 20 (b) (ii) B of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and was produced before a court for remand. The search for Vaibhav is underway, and a detailed investigation is being conducted to uncover the broader drug trafficking network.
