Delhi Police arrested a 19-year-old man, Bagga Singh, in connection with the brutal murder of a 35-year-old man in north Delhi’s Gulabi Bagh earlier this month. The victim’s live-in partner, who allegedly orchestrated the murder, was also arrested.
The murder occurred on the night of February 2-3, when the victim’s body was found dumped in a drain near a godown in Roop Nagar. A post-mortem revealed that the cause of death was strangulation. Police initially received a missing person report from the victim’s family, but investigations suggested it was a misleading attempt to divert attention from the real cause of death.
After analyzing CCTV footage, call detail records, and internet protocol records, police traced suspects who had traveled from Punjab to Delhi before the murder. A raid in Muktsar Sahib, Punjab, led to the arrest of Bagga Singh. During questioning, he revealed that he had been hired by the victim’s live-in partner for the murder.
The woman reportedly sought revenge for her 16-year-old daughter’s death, which she believed was caused by the victim, who she accused of sexually assaulting her daughter and later setting her on fire in a staged cylinder blast. She hired Bagga Singh through a relative in Punjab, leading to the execution of the plot.
Police recovered the victim’s phone from Singh and seized the motorcycle used to transport the body. Efforts to apprehend the second suspect, Gurpreet, are ongoing.
